Why do we confer power on people just because they have been around longer than others? Congress has the tradition of giving chairmanships to Senators who have been in office the longest. I wonder who started that? So states that want to send new, bright, energetic, principled people as their representatives can forget about ever having their man as a chairman. "Yeah, but I would rather have a crumb from an unprincipled chairman than the best efforts of a newbie." Again, I wonder who started this policy? I suggest we end all aspects of the incumbent protection program. In fact I endorse term limits: 6 terms in the House and 2 terms in the Senate with absolutely no pension plans.
